Why skipping can be good for our health

We all know that physical exercise is good for our wellbeing. It is recommended that we elevate our heart rates for a period of time fairly regularly and there are many ways of achieving this. Skipping is one of them.

While low intensity activities such as walking and gardening are often advised for those who are not so fit, higher intensity activity will give greater benefits. Running is popular, but you have to plan routes. Swimming is low impact but takes a bit of preparation and you have to travel to a pool. Skipping, however, is completely accessible.

Studies have found that 10 minutes of skipping, at a skipping workshop has similar health benefits to a 45 minute run. When you skip regularly, it will improve the heart and lungs and reduce your risk of contracting heart disease, colon cancer and even depression. It will also help you to maintain a healthy weight.

Furthermore, skipping has other benefits. It is good for coordination and balance and improves muscle tone in the lower body. If you have weak joints, it may not be for you as it is a relatively high impact form of exercise, but for everyone else the advantages are considerable.
